Hi friends...
As everyone knows, its IPL mania everywhere…Indian Premier League Twenty-20 cricket tournament is going on in South Africa. Why not India?? Due to lok sabha elections or may be our players refused to play in India because they want a jolly trip to abroad..!!! I don’t know..!! I just know one single thing that people in India are becoming crazy about this tournament. My college friends talk only and only about IPL every day. They argue, they fight for their players and for their teams. They even bet for money. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. Its all part of life you know!!! They behave as if they own the players. Actually, we can also purchase the players. If one is having millions and millions of money in his or her pocket, definitely one can own a team. Just go and bid. All is yours. Purchasing a person... strange no...But it’s no more an issue to debate, they are sold..!! I never knew that a person’s value can be weighed by money!!! Money is such a powerful thing you know. It can do anything!!
As we all know that we have a hell lot of fantastic players in India who made world records. They are icons of our country. People recognize our country all because of some very good players. We must agree that they are not they without their hard work. They have worked days and nights to achieve the status and respect. In spite of this, they are valued not by their talent or hard work, but by notes. Someone is sold for 1 million, someone else for another. Sometimes it seems to be funny, but it is really a big issue to think.
If we ask any of the players in the field of cricket, that what kind of cricket would you like to play? The answer is test cricket in case of many of the players. They love it because true cricket can be played in test matches without any hurry burry, tension or pressure. Calmly and peacefully one can play good cricket. But lots of people, including me, don’t like test matches as they are very much boring. Youngsters want more exciting, energetic spicy and masala kind of cricket. In test matches, they play, play and play... sometimes at the last, disastrously, the match will be declared draw..!!!Poor cricketers!!!
After test cricket, it was ODI (One Day International) era. This was some good stuff. Just they have to play for one day and night. I.e.; for a limited 50 overs. Personally I love ODIs because you don’t have to stick on to your seats till the end of the match .You can waste your time in some other work, other than cricket..!!! Some people even watch ODIs ball by ball. I don’t know what makes them so crazy. Many players have made lots and lots of world records both in tests and ODIs.
And then comes 20-20. It’s a premature baby of cricket. Before you are able to recognize the teams and players, the match will be over. You don’t have to give much stress or strain to your brain because everything in T-20 is super fast. Batsmen don’t have to stick in the crease. Within the short time period of 20 overs, they have to exhibit their talent. I think 4 or 5 players are enough for 20 overs!! These matches are extremely glamorous, sensational, and adventurous. They make you to stand up on your seat. Cheer girls cheer the players for every six or four run or an out. I don’t know whether the players are pacified by their dance or not, but the spectators definitely do..!! Poor cheer girls!!!
Many of the famous industrialists, businessmen, film actors have owned their teams by bidding the cricketers. Some of them are Vijay Maliya, Shah Rukh khan, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Mukesh Ambani Etc. As I said, costs of different players are different. Some cricketers may get disappointed by this!!!
There are mainly 8 teams with a total of 78 players. The teams are,
1. Bangalore Royal Challengers.
2. Chennai Super kings.
3. Delhi Daredevils.
4. Deccan Chargers.
5. Rajasthan Royals.
6. Kolkata knight Riders.
7. Kings X1 Punjab.
8. Mumbai Indians.
The list of franchise owners respectively are (all amounts in USD):
1. Vijay Mallya's UB group (Bangalore, 111.6 million).
2. Indian Cements (Chennai, 91 million).
3. GMR group (Delhi 84 million).
4. Deccan Chronicle (Hyderabad, 107 million).
5. A consortium led by Emerging Media (Jaipur, 67 million).
6. Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chilies Entertainment (Kolkata, 75.09 million).
7. Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Karan Paul and Dabur's Mohit Burman (Mohali, 76 million).
8. Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Limited (Mumbai, 111.9 million).
The total amount spent on only bidding is 723.59 million USD. One can’t believe how much money they are wasting for IPL. Reports say the IPL is targeted to generate revenues around 2 billion USD. The contracted revenues for season 2 is said to be in excess of Rs 10,000 crore, an increase of about Rs 1,800 crore over the inaugural year, according to sources. Millions and millions of people helped Sony max to get a maximum TRP rating of 8.1 and move to the no.1 spot from the 4 position. The camera used for the sport is imported; the accessories they use are all imported. A10-fold hike in security budget has been done from season 1 to 2. As our players are insecure!!! The team owners are profited by Ticket prices, sponsorships, selling their merchandise and by advertising themselves.
What’s the point in wasting this huge money just for the sake of name and fame?? Is this the way to play a game..?? Where are the moral and ethical values?? Are we not that much aware of our status?? Is this not the duty of every citizen of India to be more responsible? If this is the status of our people, our country can never become a developed nation in 2020, not even in 20020.
Forget about the unaware people. What about the players and all IPL related persons who are grabbing bundles and bundles of money from this tournament?? Are they blind or deaf or dumb? I don’t think they are uneducated. They are not. I think they are over educated!! Where is sportsmanship in the game?
I definitely agree that T-20 matches are very much exciting, entertaining and extremely enjoyable. Many world records are witnessed in both IPL season 1 and 2 by our players. It’s really a good thing that Indian players are part it. One can never question about it. But is this the time to enjoy?? Is this not the time to innovate our ideas in new and different ways?? I don’t say that cricket must be banned. Can’t these matches become more economical?? Can’t the team owners spend their money for internal and eternal development of India?? It’s true that “money makes many things”, but it’s also true that “money makes man mad”. One will be considered as a fool if he or she thinks that industrialists, businessmen, film actors bid, all because to encourage the sport. It’s all fake. It’s only for publicity. They want money. If they really want to help common man, they would have given some amount of money in turn. They would have played some charity matches. Anyways, I think India is no way benefitted from IPL!!!!!!
