THIS IS WRITTEN BY MA FREN, LASYA:)

Am not praising Roger 'only' because he has won 15 grand slams or cause he won french open this year..
dont tell me Roger is inconsistent or there are no potential opponents except that "freakish kid" named rafa..
reaching 22 cosecutive grand slam finals, world no. 1 for 237 consecutive weeks!! n u say he is not consistent??
wat abt roddick, safin, hewitt, haas, blake, djokovic, murray (my other favorite players :P) aren't they good enough?? they certainly wud ve bagged some grand slam wins if Roger wasn't around..
Playing against a man of Roger's calibre in itself is a huge task.. he plays with such great panache.. one will have to be mentally strong not just physically to be able to beat him. For many 'young players', the thought of playing against Roger in a grand slam final itself makes them nervous. If this is the case then its a simple mind game rather than heavy shot making tennis. 'Never allow ur opponent to settle down'.
now to say abt Petes, i love him too but it took him around 12 years to win 14 n not to forget the Muskateer's Cup is missing in his collection.
it took only around 7 years for Roger to break petes record and to win a carrer slam n he is still doin very well.
Petes was a serve n volleyer but Roger can play fom behind the baseline, can serve n volley, has got variety of fabulous shots, great footwork.. it was Roger who stopped pete from winning his 5th consecutive wimbeldon title!
Roger not playing well in the last few grand slams? he suffered from mononucleosis but still made it to semis of australian open 2008. he suffered from back injury. he made it to other three grand slam finals n won one. he came back from two sets down in the final of wimbeldon 2008 forcing the fifth set against 'Rafa' n the set went on to 9-7.
year 2009... roger played extremely good at australian open.. that match against roddick.. just awesome. rafa was on the verge of losing in semis against verdasco. about the final.. well roger is not God to play every point in the match perfectly.. he certainly has had n will have some good days n some bad ones like any other human.

French open.. 'the king of clay', rafa cudn't even make it to the quarters n lost to some world no. 23 (at that time).Shows winning a grand slam 5th consecutive time isn't an easy job and that to on two different surfaces like Roger.
wimbeldon..getting injured, considering all other factors, depends also on the style in which they play. sad rafa cudn't play coz of injury. if rafa isn't playing aren't there any other good men on tour? the british media made murray almost a winner even before the tournament started.. but Roger won it beating Haas, Del potro, Roddick in nail biting thrillers...
US open final..just another bad day.
As Roger himself has said, he has had the most amazing summer.
He tops the list of highest tennis prize money winners. He is the current world no. 1
Abt retirement.. he is still fit, playing superbly n come on, is 28 the age at which one who is on top of his game, fit wud retire?? he is jus 8 years elder than us!

To say abt other legends like Rod laver,Bjorn Borg, Jimmy cornors, Mc Enroe, Stephen Edberg, Ivan Lendl etc i haven't had the opportunity to watch them play.. so we will have to rely on the statistics and wat others say.
Surely there will be some player who wud break Roger's records too in the years to come.. as they say records are meant to be broken.who knows.. it might be rafa.

To compare Roger n Rafa, we will have to wait till the end of their career.
As of now we have to respect Roger, the man who is doing things in the way never done before.
I wud say am just glad to have born in the era in which a man named Roger Federer is playing!
One more thing.. :P
if Rafa is the best clay courter we have seen in recent times, then definitely Roger is the second best clay courter... he hasn't lost to any one except Nadal at Roland Garros in the last 5 years

  1. just wanna say:
federer got his first wimbledon title when he was 21 or 23(i dont know execty:P),he has 61 career titles, Career record of 670–157 (81.0%). nadal is now 23 with Career title of 36 and Career record of 389-85 (82.0%). just think a while, where nadal will stand, when he will be 28? am not telling roger is bad, am telling too much is too bad. he is not the only player. he is one of them. and after 10 yrs, i am 100% sure that u wont be telling the same things coz" records are meant to be broken" and roger is not the all time greatest player. he is one of the gratest players thatsit!!!

  2. hey hey 1 sec, rafa is not a "freakish kid". common!! u cant say this:P:P then i would say federer as a "desperate uncle":P

  3. haha.. pete won his last grand slam wen he was 32 years old..wat ll u call him ur 'grandpa'?

to talk more about Roger-Rafa rivalry.. it was Roger who ended nadal's 81 match winning streak on clay at Hamburg in 2007. he beat nadal in the final of madrid ahead of french open this year

Nadal hasn't won Masters cup yet. Roger has 4! its the tournament where world's top 8 players play!

Roger won his first grand slam wen he was 21(almost 22 :P). but in the next one year he had won 3 grand slams on 2 different surfaces. Rafa managed to win only French open all the 4 years. the rate at which Roger has accumulated grand slams is definitely more than nadal :P

if wat roger has done is too much, then how wud u know that he is better than other players? if u admitt its too much then u ve to accept that HE IS THE BEST.

with frequent injuries, how long do you expect nadal to play? lets hope and pray he can play for a longer time.. i wudn't suggest him to retire at 28 or wen 'others' think he is done.. :P

  4. thats the thing. he is better than others, that means not the best of all. still there are some upcoming buds who deserve some encouragement.to win or to lose is that day's faith. otherwise he would not have lost any of the matches in his whole career. even he knows that he is uncle now:P

  5. m not saying no one else deserves encouragement!
    better than everyone implies best..
to win or lose may be that day's faith.. but to win time n again, its coz of the ability one has
m not stopping u 4m calling him uncle.. even i wud call anyone with 2 kids an uncle.. :P he isn't 'desperate'
accepting him as the greatest is up to u... but dont say that he is out of form now, can't play anymore, inconsistent, shud take a break, bla bla bla

  7. @anusha
    haha:P
i am like mad for him{nadal} u know.
people wont praise fed, they discourage rafa which is really bad. not only for nadal, my support is for all those players who are ignored all because of this federer. i agree he is a "huge man"!! ok fine. but for how many days huh?

  9. @lasya
    haha:)
who is winning again and again?
even he has lost many matches.
he is not the only person to win again and again.
desperate because, when he was loosing against del potro in US open this year, he was acting like a goose. quarreling with the referee!!! uncle doing kiddo things:P

  10. Roger is Roger! :) and Rafa is no.3. no matter what ;)

  11. @sudarshan:

i know roger is roger. similarly nadal is nadal. me is me. u is u etc...whats the big deal in that?
itz not about no.1 seed or 2 or 3, its all about the courage to defeat the other which is missing in all players. they all are afraid, not coz of fed's caliber, but for his seed:P nadal is the only one who can change the shitty things going on. and definitely he will be back. not only back, but "back with a bang!!!" then i would see, seed 1,2,3....:P

  12. well talking abt stats :P
    their head to head tally
is something like 13-7 in favour of Nadal
n Federer is yet to win an Olympic gold medal in singles I guess!which Rafa won in 2008

of course there are many things which Rafa hadnt had the chance of lying his hands on
Its just a matter of time ;)

  13. and there was this battle of surfaces
half clay ,half grass which again was won by RAFA!

    ReplyDelete
  14. @nushi that was a stupid battle! of course everyone has their own favorite.. i ve no problems if u people like nadal

@supriya federer was the no. 2 seed wen he played french open n wimbeldon... it was the no. 1 seed rafa who was knocked out in 4th round..its not the seeding.. its calibre.. am not saying Roger is invincible.. no one in the world is! In the next 5 years after winning his first grand slam rafa has won only 6, Roger won 13!

rafa is not world no. 1 anymore..wasn't even able to stay in that spot for a longer time (Roger did not allow him :P)

  15. Even I dont have any problem with federer fans :P
