JAI JAVAN!!!!

"The safety honor and welfare of your country
come first always and every time.
The honor welfare and comfort of the men
you command come next.
Your own ease comfort and safety
come last always and every time”

How one can give his whole life, rejecting all worldly pleasures, for the sake of country? Is he not the true man? A true warrior. Impossible is just a little longer for him. Living life in edge, difficulty is his daily routine. Knocking the doors of danger every day, Indian javans give their best in every day of their life. Indian Defense Force is an organization which works for the country and for the welfare of people. A life saving job. Almost as sacred as life giving job. Indian army is the largest of all armed forces in India. To maintain peace and security and to protect the nation from external threats is the primary duty of soldiers. With about 13,25,000 soldiers in active service and about 18,00,000 reserved troops, the Indian Army is the world's second largest army. Each and every male citizen of India have the right to join army without any distinction of caste, community, religion etc provided he is physically and mentally fit.

Army pilots pushing their helicopters beyond their performance, soldiers trying to survive a very low temperature of around -50 degrees, only a few hundred meters away from Pakistani gunpoint position, described as the world's coldest and highest battlefield, Siachen glacier is one of the oldest and unique battle field. 'Siachen' ironically means 'the place of wild roses’, but only blood sheds there now. The oxygen level here is about 10% of that available normally and some areas are cut off from the rest of the world for more than six months during winter.

On 1984, Pakistani troops attempted to acquire 76-km-long glacier. Indian army carried out operation code-named "Meghdoot" and established permanent posts at the Siachen Glacier. Since then, the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF) have mounted there. Pilots take up their helicopters called “cheetaks” (1960 design!!) to drop supplies to the soldiers, altitudes of 21,000 feet. But the actual capacity of these cheetaks to fly is about 15,000 feet only (making impossible things possible!!). They have to do this all within 20 to 30 seconds before Pakistanis open up the fire. Cheetak lands over a small artificial hill made with snow rope and parachutes not more than few seconds. Army engineers constructed a special 121km long pipeline connecting the Siachen base camp to some positions on the glacier to supply kerosene for the soldiers. A bucket of boiling water turns into ice within 15-20 minutes. Roughly about 500 soldiers are died due extreme weather conditions over past 16 years. Every day, about 10 soldiers are treated by doctors due to the collection of water in their lungs. The cost of a loaf of bread that would be less than a rupee in the Kashmir valley is estimated to cost about 10,000 rupee when it reaches siachin. Pakistani troops are not suffering less. Pakistan’s move at this time is to make sure India withdraws from Siachen’s strategic positions that it controls. India’s position is” no way” unless that becomes part of a comprehensive package of Kashmir settlement. In short they won’t enter into a settlement. All talks between Indian and Pakistani defense secretaries on resolving the Siachen issue ends up inconclusively. It is a war neither side wants to fight. Yet, it has lasted for two long decades.

Siachen war is not the only one, look at the kargil war. Thousands together lost their life. Their victories and sacrifices are talked by only common people. Even today the pensions, retirement schemes and post-retirement benefits are in knots. Endlessly they have to depend on our politicians. 78 javans are struck in Pakistan jails since the 1971 war. It is not at all a priority for our government to ensure their release. Lieutenant Saurabh Kalia of 4 Jat regiment laid down his life in the Kargil war at the age of 22. He was captured along with his party of five jawans and tortured by the Pakistan army for 22 days but none of them opened their mouth. They suffered unimaginable physical and mental torture. After 22 days of torture, the brave soldiers were ultimately shot dead. None of us even know their names. And this story also. We all remember even the very “gup shups” of celebrities rather. Father of Lt Kalia has been trying to collect enough signatures to submit a petition before the UN Human Rights Commission. Politicians must have helped them in this case. Again they don’t have time. I wonder why reason for all problems in India end up with dirty politics. All my posts ends up blaming them (like anything!!!). Still I won’t pity them. They deserve it, even more. Every Indian must know what are all the difficulties suffered by soldiers. A bullet-proof jacket weighs 30 kg plus. Whole day is spent as a stranger in his own land searching for traitors. And no one remembers them.

Situations in north eastern frontier are also the same. ULFA leaders attack with their main control from Bangladesh. Peace talks from our politicians make no difference. Terrorist roam in the streets freely. Our soldiers have to safeguard the people distinguishing the terrorists. All our borders are in danger and threat from one country or the other.

In spite of all the threats, dangers and problems, today the Republic Day is celebrated with much enthusiasm all over the country and especially in the capital, New Delhi. It is our national festival. The beginning of the occasion is always a solemn reminder of the sacrifice of the martyrs who died for the country in the freedom movement and wars for the defense of the country. Then, the President comes forward to award the medals of bravery to the people from the armed forces for their exceptional courage in the field and also the civilians, who have distinguished themselves. It must not be limited only up to medals is what i feel. Anyways,

WISH YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY.

JAI HIND.

JAI JAVAN.

My favorite patriotic song:

kadam kadam badhaye jaa khushi ke geet gaye jaa
yeh jindagi hain kaaum ki tu kaaum pe lutaye jaa
kadam kadam badhaye jaa khushi ke geet gaye jaa
yeh jindagi hain kaaum ki tu kaum pe lutaye jaa

tu sher hind aage badh, bandhe se phir bhi tu na darr
udake dushmano ka sir, jo de watan badhaye ja
tu sher hind aage badh, bandhe se phir bhi tu na darr
udake dushmano ka sir, jo de watan badhaye ja
kadam kadam badhaye jaa khushi ke geet gaye jaa
yeh jindagi hain kaaum ki tu kaum pe lutaye jaa

chalo dilli pukarti hume disha sambhali
lakh ye bighadke lehraye ja lehraye ja
chalo dilli pukarti hume disha sambhali
lakh ye bighadke lehraye ja lehraye ja
kadam kadam badhaye jaa khushi ke geet gaye jaa
yeh jindagi hain kaaum ki tu kaum pe lutaye jaa
kadam kadam badhaye jaa khushi ke geet gaye jaa
yeh jindagi hain kaaum ki tu kaum pe lutaye jaa
